ENG 101: American Selfie

In the fall of 2019, I adapted the popular course I taught at Spelman College on selfie culture and self representation. In this course, I asked students to write and think critically about social media, autobiography, and self portraiture. In the process, my students produced some great work! Check it out below.

Note: All student work has been shared with permission.

Sierra’s podcast, “Weaving the World,” beautifully weaves her family history with Navajo oral traditions.
Lilah curated an Instagram account which interrogated representations of women on social media. She created a fascinating series of collages on her feed!
Saumya designed this infographic about the negative effects of selfie culture. She also made many of the graphics herself!
